Turbo Service Kits & Rebuild Kits

Turbo service kits and rebuild kits provide the gaskets, seal rings, journal bearings, thrust bearings, and snap rings needed to service or fully rebuild a turbocharger at the bearing housing level. A proper rebuild restores oil sealing, eliminates shaft play, and returns the turbocharger to factory clearance specifications without the cost of a complete replacement unit.

Popular Turbo Service Kit Contents

Basic turbo service kits include turbine and compressor side shaft seal rings, thrust bearing and thrust collar, oil feed and drain O-rings, and compressor housing O-ring or gasket. Full rebuild kits add new journal bearings in standard or oversized dimensions, a new snap ring set, and in some cases a replacement piston ring set for the turbine side seal. Gasket sets for the turbine inlet and outlet flanges are often sold separately and should be included in any complete turbocharger service.

How do I know if my turbocharger needs a rebuild?

Common indicators that a turbocharger needs service or rebuild include blue smoke at startup from oil burning through worn turbine shaft seals, excessive shaft axial or radial play measured at the compressor wheel, audible grinding or rattling from the turbo under load, and oil contamination of the intake system or intercooler. Catching shaft play early before the compressor or turbine wheel contacts the housing walls prevents damage that would require housing replacement in addition to the bearing service.

Can I rebuild a turbocharger without balancing equipment?

Journal bearing turbochargers can be rebuilt at the center housing level without a balancing machine if the compressor and turbine wheels are not being replaced and show no measurable imbalance. Replacing the rotating assembly components such as the shaft, compressor wheel, or turbine wheel requires professional balancing to prevent vibration that will rapidly destroy the new bearing set. For a service-only rebuild replacing bearings and seals, careful assembly to manufacturer torque specifications and proper pre-lubrication before startup is sufficient.
